Ruben Canales
Ruben Canales was born and raised in New York City. He comes
from a family of professional percussionist who also owned a nightclub in the
heart of the Bronx. At the age of 8, Ruben already had 2 years of afro-drumming
and ensamba classes, and was performing at the families nightclub. Meanwhile,
Rubens’ uncles and cousins were out recording albums with some of the greatest
performers in the Latin world, such as: Mongo Santamaria, Patato Valdez and
Louis Colon, just to name a few. Many came through their nightclub where Ruben
was able to exchange techniques and ideas with some of the world’s best conga,
bongo and timbale players known in the music industry. Now with his degree from
one of the best schools, the school of hard knocks, Ruben has performed all over
New York City, New Jersey, Connecticut and up and down the east coast of
Florida. Ruben has worked with various artists throughout the country developing
more and more his own techniques, and he’s honored to do this tribute to
Santana with Galo and his crew.
